Richard M. Stallman is often cited as explaining the concept of free software as:
- “Free software” is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of “free” as in “free speech”, not as in “free beer”.
Free Software is sometimes referred to as Open Source Software - although similar in approach, Free software and Open Source Software differs in terms of the underlying philosophy.
The “Free Beer Foundation” (http://free-beer.dk) has taken this philosophy and used it to publish their guarana infused beer branding and recipes under Creative Commons licence.

“As everyone knows free beer will make you drink more and get drunk. When you get drunk you will speak more freely. So it will be free speech by free beer.”
